If you are in Oxford and fancy a coffee in Pret a Manger in Cornmarket Street, you will find yourself in an ancient building that dates from the 14th Century. Look around you and you will see the well preserved timbers and stone work.
Originally, this building was an Inn and may have had a courtyard. Fortunately, the building was extensively restored in the 1980s and now belongs to Jesus College.

The Norman castle in this Sussex town boasts a captivating archway fashioned from sandstones of many hues — soft reds, warm yellows, and muted browns. Centuries of weathering have roughened the stone surfaces, giving the arch a rugged, beauty that stands out against the flint walls.
The first arch rises in a graceful, pointed lancet style, while the second curves more gently in a simple, rounded form.
The remains of this chapel sits below the Golden Cap hill near to Charmouth in Dorset. The walls and doorways are preserved but no roof remains. I took this photograph and made some refinements to bring out the texture of the stone.
This arched recess may have been provided for a sculpture. I was able to show the texture of the stone because of the strong sunlight in the late afternoon..
Dorchester Abbey is in Dorchester-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.
I am on a walk in the forest and amongst all the green, this tree with its covering of bright orange comes to my attention. The golden yellow lichen covers the smooth grey bark of the beech tree and contrasts against the multiple green hues of the forest canopy.
This sculpture by Olivia Musgrave was commissioned by the Said Business School in 2002. The bronze sculpture is visible by pedestrians leaving Oxford Rail station.
